ANSWER: Below I’ve identified 9 traits of an ideal coaching client?

1. You’re willing to secure a high level of trust in me as your coach. To get the most out of our work together, you must feel comfortable enough to articulate questions and concerns to me. What I learn about you will help me determine which strategies and action steps are the most likely to work for you with your weight-loss and ensure you hit your goals in a timely manner

2. You’re willing to make it a habit of recapping what you’ve learned during our coaching each week via action steps. What are you going to do next? Document it and share your intentions with me. That way..You won’t forget what’s expected of you next.

3. You’re willing to be open-minded to new ideas. No one has all the answers. I’m there to work with you and help you achieve your goals so please focus on listening and processing what we talk about.

4. You’re willing to stay consistent. Schedule calls as needed. Some clients go too long without scheduling a call with me because they don’t want to bother their coach. That’s the wrong way of looking at it! Your coach wants to stay on top of your progress. Check in frequently, whether it’s to review homework, discuss an update or ask a question. Pick up the phone if the subject matter has weight.

5. You’re willing to make your weight-loss a top priority. You’ll actively work toward accomplishing assigned tasks each week and you’ll look for ways to get the work done, not for excuses as to why you couldn’t.  These tasks are simple, but important for cultivating new positive habits.

6. You agree to only set realistic goals about the time you have available to pursue your goals and your ability to succeed. Set goals that inspire and drive you -- not overwhelm and depress.

7. You’ll listen with the intent to take action. What do I mean? Focus on action steps at all times. There’s a big difference between passively taking something in and actively noting what needs to be done to move the ball down the court. Engage with the knowledge your coach imparts. Coaching is a two-way street. All the instruction in the world won't help if it falls on deaf ears.

8. You agree to keep it real and not be afraid of having genuine and ambitious conversations. I'm your coach. I'm here to help. Having a coach, especially one you’ve hired, is a unique experience. Maybe you’ve never opened up about your ideas before. Maybe you’ve never verbalized your ambitions out loud. Now is the time. This is what it's all about. And, being able to clearly and concisely express a message is an invaluable skill you will use over and over again.

9. You agree to be patient. Nothing happens overnight. At the same time, you need to maintain a sense of urgency. Accept the process for what it is, that it might take longer than you want. There's no point in letting forces out of your control frustrate you. But do everything in your power that you can. It’s a balancing act, to be sure

ANSWER: Whole Body Breakthrough is part eating plan, part exercise plan and part powerful communication between you and me. During our conversations I will question you in a way that is deep and thought provoking to reveal how you view things, how you are inspired, and what issues might be blocking your weight-loss progress throughout the program. You’ll begin to see and think through things in a more clear and balanced way. Powerful questioning will help you and me develop the right exercises and eating plan that you can stick with and achieve your weight-loss goals

QUESTION: What can I expect—an introduction to my coaching approach?

ANSWER: I follow this "6 step" coaching process.

STEP 1: GOAL SETTING ---The first step in starting your weight-loss coaching with me will be to clarify what you want from the get-go. I’ll help you determine what’s really important to you and help you stay focused on that. Together, we will explore your long-term goals and dreams, the ones that truly motivate you and represent your inspiration to get fit and healthy and then break those bigger goals down into smaller, more achievable weekly performance goals/milestones along the way. Setting realistic goals is the most important first step in losing your weight successfully. We’ll create a coaching and eating plan that’s built for success right from the start. You’ll know exactly what to do at every stage of your weight-loss.

STEP 2: ASSESSING WHERE YOU ARE RIGHT NOW – I’ll help you figure out what you don’t know and clue you in to things you may not be able to see in an honest and transparent manner. Successful coaching is about helping you get from where you are to where you want to be. I'll help you know the difference between weaknesses you need to fix and those that are best left as they are. This way, you’ll be able to invest your time and energy only in the most effective manner that produces the best and fastest results. In step one we determined where you want to be.

Here in step 2 we'll objectively assess where you are right now. I will help you fact-check your current situation, limiting beliefs, and mindset concerning and contributing to your excess weight in an unbiased and helpful manner. I'll do this by asking you questions that call for specific and descriptive answers. We will explore external circumstances and negative habits that might hold you back and otherwise jeopardize your success.

In step 2 we want to identify, isolate and eliminate any constraints that would slow you down and perhaps cripple your efforts. It is essential that you’re open, objective and fact-based in your assessment of reality during this step because we’ll need to take this into account (and develop a game plan to overcome it) when tackling specific goals that were set in step 1.

STEP 3: REVIEW YOUR RESOURCES AND OPTIONS – Next you and I will review all the resources, options and courses of action at your disposal to help you accomplish your weightloss goals. This step is about generating as many ideas as possible. Resources are where we draw our strength and inspiration. They keep us focused and help us accomplish our goals. From this list, we will narrow it down to those options that make the most sense (practically) and offer the most impact.

STEP 4: CREATE AN ACTION PLAN – Next I will design for you a weight-loss plan that will take you from where you are right now to where you want to be in the future and the steps that need to be pursued. In this plan, we’ll figure out what you’re going to do and when you’re going to do it. I’ll help you get from point A to B much faster than you could on your own.

We'll cover what types of obstacles to expect along the way and what support you need in meeting your weight-loss goals.
